A Look Back at This Year's Exhibitions

Throughout 2023 Extraordinary Objects has hosted a range of exhibitions from Alma Singer’s debut show ‘A For Effort’ to our final exhibition in Cambridge ‘The Last Supper’ which saw our busiest private view event since our opening. Scroll to take a look back at the exhibitions we’ve hosted this year and we wish you a very Happy New Year and best wishes as we approach 2024.

An Extraordinary Collection - 8th October - 4th March

Between October 2022 and March of this year, Extraordinary Objects Gallery presented 'An Extraordinary Collection'; a rotating exhibition consisting of rare limited prints and originals from some of the world’s leading names in Contemporary Art representing the galleries latest acquisitions. Works displayed included the 'Superhero' portfolio by Jean-Michel Basquiat, The Connor Brothers bastardised oils prints, Grayson Perry's intricate map of America, rare originals by David Shrigley and bold limited editions by British favourite Bridget Riley.

Everything Is A Bit Shit - 11th March - 1st May

Everything Is A Bit Shit showcased a collection of British artists renowned for their use of sarcasm and irony. On display and flying the flag for British self-deprecation were acclaimed artists Grayson Perry, Banksy, David Shrigley, Harland Miller, Gilbert & George and The Connor Brothers, alongside emerging talents Tim Fishlock and Alma Singer. Dry sarcasm ruled the exhibition allowing for a more comedic take amongst the serious backdrop of the contemporary art world.

A For Effort - 10th June - 6th August

‘A For Effort’ was the first solo show of Cambridge-based artist Alma Singer. Exploring value, art, identity and female sexuality, the exhibition was a humorous and personal exploration of the world by the artist. It was only at the beginning of this year that Singer began making work, and from the first post on Instagram there was an immediate audience of collectors. The exhibition fully sold out before its closing date in August and the artists list of commissions is now so long that it spans a few months ahead.

Extraordinary Collections II - 19th August - 7th November

This exhibition was the second in our rotating show series and featured originals and limited editions from some of the biggest names in Contemporary Art; Tracey Emin, David Shrigley, Lakwena Maciver, Bridget Riley, Jordy Kerwick, The Connor Brothers and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Rare and unique sculptures made by nature that date back millions of years were placed alongside these artworks and included dinosaur skulls and teeth, meteorites, fossil fish plates, iridescent ammonites and gogottes. The gallery’s show piece was an original bisected triceratops skull, which stands in the centre of the gallery, which has since been sold.

The Last Supper - 11th November - 22nd December

Our last show in Cambridge, The Last Supper, took inspiration from the German ‘Wunderkammer’, also known as ‘Room of Wonder’, with the galleries most prized collection of art, curiosities and rarities from across the globe on display. Wunderkammern arose in mid-sixteenth-century Europe as a place to hold all manner of wondrous and exotic objects. In essence these collections can be seen as the precursors to museums. There was no specific genre that defines the The Last Supper collection. Each object was chosen for its extraordinary nature; man-made and natural.

Thank you for all your continued support during our time in Cambridge and we wish you all the best for 2024.
