Banksy: Sale Ends V2

The Sale Ends series sees Banksy skilfully combine high-end art and high-street shopping, drawing parallels between the fervent materialism of society and religious infatuation. The figures mourn over the end of cheap discounts in a manner reminiscent of religious masterpieces that formerly showed Jesus's disciples mourning his execution.

While being rendered in Banksy's signature black and white stencil style, the intricate details of their long, flowing robes, their motions, and their expressions were influenced by religious paintings from the Renaissance period and Old Masters' styles.

Sale Ends second variant, Sale Ends V2 (Pictured above), was released in 2017 to mark the closure of Pictures On Walls with the artist saying they had “been taken over by venture anti-capitalists and [would] cease trading from 31st December”. In April 2021, a print of Sale Ends V2 sold for £52,500 at auction smashing its high estimate.

Extraordinary Objects is delighted to have acquired a print of Sale Ends V2, signed and numbered by the artist from an edition of 500. Sale Ends V2 is available to purchase for £27,000, please get in touch to purchase
