David Shrigley 'The Plant Loves Me'

Finally, a plant you cannot kill…

"I never sat down and decided to make work about life and death. It just comes out of my head like water pouring out of a jug" - David Shrigley

The most recent print release from David Shrigley, 'The Plant Loves Me' is a 26 colour screenprint on paper, framed and available to purchase from Extraordinary Objects Gallery.

Known for his distinctive and darkly humorous drawings, sculptures, and installations, Shrigley often explores absurdity, human nature, and the complexities of everyday life in a childlike simplicity, accompanied by witty captions or ironic statements.

His works blend humour with a touch of melancholy, offering a unique perspective on the human condition. Over the years, Shrigley's art has gathered widespread acclaim and has been exhibited in renowned galleries and museums worldwide.

Released through Jealous Gallery in July 2023, this screenprint is stunningly detailed due to the administration of paint through 26 screens each one adding a new layer of colour.

David Shrigley's current screenprint auction record was set in June 2023 at Phillip's Online Auction, with 'My Rampage Is Over' achieving the price of £22,860, nearly 3x its £5000-£7000 estimate.

Within the past few years, at auction, it has become regular for prints by David Shrigley to smash their estimates, most notably in the Phillips Editions on Paper auction in April 2021 where 'Untitled (A Gap In The Clouds)' sold for 9x its original $1,200-$1,800 estimate.
