This vibrant exhibition offers a unique insight into the industry’s evolving landscape featuring works from David Shrigley, Tox, 10Foot, Damien Hirst and The Connor Brothers.

Also New Year, New Works, introduces our newest artist, Pop-art icon, Andy Warhol…

Andy Warhol
Liz, 1964

This offset lithograph, featuring iconic Hollywood movie star Elizabeth Taylor, was created in 1964, at the height of Taylor’s career. Her romance with Cleopatra co-star Richard Burton dominated the news at the time, enticing Warhol’s love of celebrity and pop culture.

The print is based on a publicity photograph from the late 1950s for Taylor’s film Butterfield 8, cropped tightly and coloured with a bright red background that contrasts Taylor’s thick, dark hair.

10Foot & TOX
367U

A collaboration between two of the most recognisable names in graffiti, TOX and 10Foot, these original spray paint on canvases are a unique example of the artist’s popular ‘tagging’ style. Tagging in the most obscure city locations is an instantly accessible style of graffiti art that these London-based artists are most identifiable by.

The pair have both become some of the most prolific graffiti writers in London as well as some of the most productive globally with their now iconic tags.

Bridget Riley
Two Blues

Two Blues was created as part of Bridget Riley’s ‘Lozenge’ series and displays a combination of blue hues, complimented by purposefully placed segments of white. The title is a direct reference to Franz Schubert’s 1813 romance song of the same name. Blending straight lines, harsh angles and sensual curves, this looks like a straightforward composition but is delicate and intricate. Riley works with three colours: white, light blue/mauve and deep blue, with each being assigned roughly the same amount of surface area so none is dominating.

The composition is to prevent the observer from forming any visual connections. If viewed sideways, the print may be interpreted as an abstraction based on reflected light on water, but Riley has avoided this entanglement by angling the composition's lines to be vertical.

Rare Gogotte Formation
Anatomy of Melancholy

Gogottes are formed from quartz crystals and calcium carbonate. Of natural form, the gogotte is produced when superheated water extrudes through crevices into a basin of extremely fine white silica sand. The silica then cements the sand together to form the gogottes fluid lines, creating natural sculptures. They are found in only one place in the world; Fontainebleau, France.

Nantan Meteorite

Falling to Earth over 500 years ago, this iron-nickel meteorite was discovered in 1958 in Nantan County, Guangxi, China. The meteorite, that scattered 9.5 tonnes of debris on Earth’s surface in 1516, is made of an iron alloy, containing about 6% nickel. It originates from the asteroid belt, a group of rocky material that orbits the Sun between Mars and Jupiter. There are billions of asteroids in the asteroid belt; some are enormous, while others are as little as pebbles.
