Created in collaboration with Choose Love, Tracey Emin, along with six other international artists, were each asked to create a print to help support refugees and displaced people worldwide.
Tracey Emin uses all aspects of her life in her art, turning intimate autobiography into broader statements about love, death, sex, freedom and everyday life. This work takes form the form of a freehand diaristic drawing, with sweeping brushstrokes to depict a figure lying on a bed.
When asked about the title of the work Emin says “Even though the image may not associated with the charity, for me the words Choose Love is so powerful and it’s about the choice that we have. We can be sad, we can be unhappy, we could be full of hatred or we could choose love. And this figure is choosing love”
Tracey Emin
Tracey Emin is a renowned British artist known for her provocative and deeply personal works. In the 1990s, Emin emerged as one of the leading figures in the Young British Artists (YBAs) movement, which challenged traditional notions of art and propelled British contemporary art onto the global stage. Emin's art often explores themes of love, sexuality, identity, and personal history. Raw and emotionally charged, her pieces often draw from her own experiences, inviting viewers to confront their own vulnerabilities and intimate moments. Her confessional, narcissistic and self-deprecatory approach earned Emin a nomination for the Turner Prize in 1999.
